I want to transform my house into Smart Home where I can control my electrical appliances via mobile application in this case I’m using Smart Life.
At first, I though I must buy electrical appliance that have Wifi connection but I found it is expensive to replace all my electrical appliances that have Wifi connection and besides each manufacturer has their own mobile application to control their devices.
I don’t want to install different kind of mobile application because it makes hard to manage the devices.
Universal Infra Red Remote Control with Wifi
I found a device called universal infra red remote control with Wifi where it can control all electrical appliances via infra red and Smart Life mobile app controls the universal infra red remote control via Wifi.
As long as your electrical appliances can be control via IR remote control, you can control the appliance using the universal IR remote controller.
An universal IR remote controller can control devices within lines of sight. This is cheaper way to make my Smart Home project.

Why I Use the Universal IR Remote Controller?
I have three major reasons
- Automation – I can automate on and off of my aircond to save electricity. Example by 4am I automatically switch off my aircond then on the ceiling fan as at 4am the temperature is not that hot anymore.
- No misplaced remote – sometimes I misplace my remote control, so by controlling via my mobile phone, I don’t waste time find the remote.
- Controlling over the internet – if my kid forgot to switch off TV, I can switch it off remotely. For autogate I can open my gate when I’m reaching nearby my house so I don’t waste time waiting for the gate to be opened.
Where You Can Buy Universal IR Remote Controller?
I bought mine at Shopee at RM32 per controller which I think reasonable price to make Smart Home project.
Of course I bought few controllers for living room & different bedrooms.
